When you share a file or folder on FileMv, the result is a link. Whoever has it can open it in any browser — no account, no app.
The two forms of a link
Every share has two equivalent addresses:
- a short link like
filemv.com/s/ab12cd34— this is what the copy button gives you, and the form meant for pasting into chats and emails; - a long link like
filemv.com/share/…with a longer token.
Both open the same page, and both keep working for as long as the share is live. Paid accounts can also replace the random ending with a custom slug.
Creating and managing a share
Sign in and open a file or folder in your Drive, then use the share button. The share dialog is also where everything about the link is managed later:
- copy the link or the embed code,
- set or remove a password,
- set an expiry, or revoke the link entirely.
Anonymous uploads get their share link right on the upload success screen — but without an account there is no way to manage it afterwards.
The link is not the file
A share link is a door to the file, not the file itself. Revoking a link or letting it expire never deletes anything from your Drive — you can always share the same file again with a fresh link. The reverse is also true: deleting the file kills every link that pointed at it.
Who can see a shared file elsewhere
Sharing a file by link does not publish it anywhere else: it does not appear in search, on your profile, or in Explore. Public visibility is a separate, deliberate step through collections.
