A share link does not have to live forever. You can give it a shelf life up front, or turn it off the moment it has served its purpose. Both are managed in the share dialog, and both need a registered account.
Setting an expiry
The expiry dropdown offers preset durations: never, 1 day, 7 days, 30 days, or 1 year. You can change or remove the expiry later at any time.
- While the link is live, recipients see a countdown on the share page.
- After expiry, the link answers with a clear "this share has expired" page. Anyone who needs the content again just needs a fresh link from you.
Revoking a link
The share dialog's revoke button turns the link off immediately. The short link, any custom slug and the long link all stop working at once — even for someone who has the page open and clicks onward.
Neither deletes the file
This is the most important thing to know: expiry and revocation retire the link, not the file. Your copy stays untouched in your Drive, and you can create a brand-new share for it whenever you like. Files on FileMv are only ever deleted when you delete them.
Choosing between password and expiry
They solve different problems and combine well:
