Registering and signing in
You register with an email address and a password. The form asks you to type the password twice (at least 8 characters), accept the terms of use and — while bot protection is switched on — pass a short bot check (captcha). After registering you are taken to the sign-in page — your first sign-in is what activates the session.
Email verification is gentle: you can use your account before verifying, and the dashboard reminds you with a banner (with a resend button) until you click the link we sent.
Signing in with Google or Facebook
The sign-in and registration pages show the Log in with Google / Log in with Facebook (on registration: Sign up with …) buttons only while that option is switched on. If you do not see them, it is not available at the moment, and email + password is the way in. When the buttons are there:
- You sign in on Google's or Facebook's own page, and FileMv receives only the email address the provider has confirmed for you — nothing else from your profile.
- If you already have a FileMv account with that email, you are signed in to it, and your password keeps working too. One exception: an account whose email address was never confirmed is taken over by the social sign-in, and its old password stops working.
- If you have no account yet, one is created without a password. You then always sign in with the provider: the Forgot password flow does not set a password for such an account, and deleting it is confirmed with a one-time code sent by email.
Forgot your password?
Use Forgot password on the sign-in page. You will get an email with a single-use reset link that leads to a form for the new password. The confirmation message looks the same whether or not the address has an account — that is deliberate, so nobody can probe which emails are registered. This same flow is currently also the way to change a password you still know.
Files uploaded before you registered
If you uploaded a file without an account, that upload stays anonymous for good: it cannot be attached to your account later, and you cannot rename or delete it. If you want to manage your files, sign in first and upload them afterwards — that way they land in your Drive.
The devices page
Settings → Devices lists the devices signed in through the Android app, with their name and last-used time. Each row has a sign out action — the way to cut off a lost phone, for example. Browser sign-ins do not appear on this list, so a forgotten computer cannot be signed out from there; instead, sign out from any browser, or set a new password with the Forgot password flow — both end all your browser sign-ins. Deleting your account signs out everything everywhere at once.
