Exporting your data

Updated:

You can download everything FileMv stores about you, any time, for free. This is your GDPR right of access — and also just a handy backup.

Requesting an export

Go to Settings → Account and press Download my data. That is the whole request. When the export is ready, you get an email with a download link. Pressing the button again while an export is still being prepared does not queue a second one.

What the ZIP contains

  • profile.json — your account record;
  • files.json — the inventory of all your files, plus a files/ folder with the actual content of files up to 100 MB (larger files are listed with a download link instead, to keep the ZIP practical);
  • your per-file download and view statistics;
  • abuse reports you filed, and the email addresses you have sent shares to;
  • a README.txt explaining the layout.

What it deliberately does not contain: your password (we could not include it — only a hash is stored), security tokens, and other people's personal data.

The download link in the email is valid for 24 hours; the prepared ZIP itself is cleaned up after a few days. Missed the window? Just request a new export — each request builds a fresh snapshot.

Before deleting your account

An export is the natural first step before deleting your account — deletion is immediate and permanent, so save what you want to keep first.
