A static code, with no expiry and no tracking
Most free QR generators hand you a "dynamic" code: what goes into the code is not your link but the provider's redirect. That is convenient — until the provider starts charging, or shuts down. From then on every sticker you printed leads to an error page.
This tool makes a static code: your text is inside it and nothing else. It does not expire, it does not count scans, and we cannot see who scanned it — because the code is assembled in your browser and none of it is ever sent to us.
SVG for print, PNG for screens
A PNG is made of pixels: blow a 512-pixel code up to poster size and the module edges blur, which makes scanning unreliable. An SVG is vector — the press draws it at whatever size you ask for, with the same crisp edge.
That is why we put no image inside the SVG. An embedded logo would make the file resolution-dependent again, only this time the extension would not give it away. If you want to print a code with a logo, download the PNG at the largest size.
What makes a code scan — and what stops it
Three things: contrast, border and size. The code has to be dark on a light background (the other way round, many readers will not even find it), it needs an empty light border around it, and it should be printed roughly one centimetre wide for every ten centimetres of scanning distance.
The error-correction level says how much of the code may be damaged — scratched, covered by a logo — before it stops being readable. The higher it is, the denser the code for the same content.
Frequently asked questions
Does the code ever expire?
No. The content lives inside the code, not with us. As long as the link you put in it works, the code works — even if this page one day disappears.
Can you see my Wi-Fi password?
No. The code is built in your browser and what you type never leaves your machine. An upload only happens if you click "Share with a link" yourself — and even then only the finished image is uploaded.
Why did the middle of the code turn grey?
If you put a logo in the middle, there is no data there — error correction makes up for it. That is why we raise error correction to level H automatically as soon as you pick a logo. If the code still does not scan, use a smaller logo or leave it out.
How much content fits?
A few thousand characters, but it is worth stopping well before that: the longer the text, the denser the code and the closer you have to be to scan it. For a link, use a short address.
Can I use the code commercially?
Yes. There is no watermark, no sign-up, and no limit on how many codes you make or where you use them.
